Jyl, has OFA changed the age for Prelims from must be 12 months to under 12 months? That'd be nice to be able to prelim without waiting till 12 months.

BUNDISHEP,

Yes OFA gave me a prelim result. However it will not be posted on OFA's website because Ice was under 12 months old when they xrays were submitted to OFA.

Here is Ice's pedigree....

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=1993709-aidan-von-haus-der-pfahler

Ice is only 14 months old.... so he has not totally come into himself yet... so some of these things may change when he matures more both mentally and physicaly. As for Ice's temperment... He is not dog aggressive.. if a dogs barks at him I just tell him to "leave it" and he will walk away with me. He is very confident and a tad cocky so I am sure if he was really challenged he would take care of business. I do not let my dogs go play with other dogs, I am not a dog park kinda of person. I personally like my dogs to be indifferent with other dogs. He gets along fine with my 8 year old female. She kinda ingores him, as he can be a tad irritating...lol.

He is a good family dog.. he is still very young so he does tend to be on the go all the time. But that will change as he matures, he will learn to settle more in the house. He is fairly good about respecting our space and not plowing over my or my mom. That is one thing that I REALLY worked on from day one. As my mom is disabled and uses a wheelchair alot and is not very stable on her feet. So the dogs have a "3 foot rule".. Ice is very loving with us and affectionate..... he is social with people when out and enjoys being petted but does not demand it.

I have done some health testing on him so far... here is what I have done....

HIPS - GOOD (prelim)

ELBOWS - NORMAL(prelim)

DM - CLEAR

DENTAL - FULL DENTITION

As for his conformation he has a nice head....nice shaped eyes that are dark... good strong neck... nice shoulder... good withers... nice chest... nice tail and tail set.... Altough his chest is not developed yet. It is filling out correctly as he is maturing. Medium to medium heavy bone. His back is strong and has gotten better with age. He was a tad roachy backed as a pup, he still is slightly, but his back is maturing for the better as he ages. The one thing (as I mentioned ) is that I do not care for his rear end and croup. Ice has a steep and short croup. So Ice moves short in his rear when gaiting.... He has an ambling/pacing gait in the rear (at least this is how I describe it) this is the one thing I would love to change on Ice.. Hopefully this will get better when he ages and fills out more. So far it has not changed for the better or worse... it has stayed the same. Ice is however, very agile and quick like his sire.

He is very easy to train in OB. He learns qiuck and retains what he learns very well. He has a great willingness to please and pushes me to work. He is very upbeat and happy. He is going to have a very flashy correct OB. I have been working on sitz, platz, recalls, some heeling and working on focus work. I have also been doing some rear end awareness routines...teaching him to move his rear end into place without moving his front. So far I have done everything with food and no corrections. In a few months when he matures some I will use some leash pressure and corrections if he is out of place... right now it is all fun and rewards.

He has a great nose on him.... and VERY high food drive. Tracking is going to be soooooo easy with this dog. From what I have seen so far I am planning on training him thru the FH.

As for protection.... I have not done much formal bitework with him. I have worked on a bite wedge with him myself..... working on full calm bites, teaching him to counter.... and have tough him the "out".... all of this has been thru verbal markers and rewards. He is VERY high prey, so I will wait another couple months before doing formal bitework, as he will need some pressure put on him to get him to bark..

Ice has had Pano off and on.... as he has grown quickly.

Yes, I have access to PSA so that is what we will be doing and if he likes the water, dock jumping and other fun activities. I take lots of videos and pictures so no problem there! In the past I have started my puppies on Wellness Puppy food and then switched to a raw diet as they got older. So far he has been very outgoing, when I let him out of his kennel at the airport he latched onto my jeans. I said yes, this one will do. LOL. Callname is Brego. :)

Do we call that a  Latch key baby?   Maybe Latch on baby...I laugh sometimes, to myself, when people come on our base and say..MY pup is biting my legs and my pants and  my feet when I walk and got him home out of the kennel...Help what do I do?  lol

YEP, that is the one I keep..

Drago is no different from Pirol and Bastin who Gary had that he imported from Europe already titles and he campaigned them and they became the main attraction and did produce  SOME good pups..

Hope Drago can endure the ride.

I do like the pups I have seen as far as structure ,now lets see what they bring to the forefront and if their hips and health is as royal as the dads are.

JOANRO,

You asked " Jyl, has OFA changed the age for Prelims from must be 12 months to under 12 months? That'd be nice to be able to prelim without waiting till 12 months."

OFA has not changed the age to under 12 months. A dog must be 12 months or older on the day of xray to get an official OFA prelim that will be listed on the OFA website. I emailed them and asked why Ice's results were not on the OFA website and they told me that it was because Ice was under 12 months. So I did not get a prelim certificate, they just sent me a paper that was checked with the results of GOOD - HIPS and NORMAL - ELBOWS.

Jyl is right; you can take OFA prelims at 6 months or older, but official prelims listed on the site will be after 12 months of age. Tala's were done at 6 months (good and normal), but not listed in the database; so I just offer pictures of the results until her officials are in.
