Correct, Jenni. And since I did own a $350 scanner specific to one chip already, I did not want to switch and purchase another one. Apache and Tonga are tatooed as well.

We use 24petwatch chips in our rescue and we have had good success with them.
Registration is free and you can update and modify your account (dog's information) online.
We did purchase an AVID universal scanner to use as well, and got reimbursed in chips from 24petwatch to offset the expense of the scanner.
We have an AKC scanner, btw, and it is crap. You have to KNOW the chip is there or you cannot find it in one, two, or even 5-6 swipes.

Not surprising about the AKC scanner.I am about to start my own kennel club, I'm so sick of the AKC all around...their stupid fees, their lack of efficiency, and their general contribution to the downfall of the breed.....

I am just going to order HomeAgain chips again, although they're more expenive, and chip all of them before they go home. 24 PetWatch is the same, I think. I have a friend who works for Schering-Plough, manufacturer of HomeAgain, and he told me they were the same. 24PetWatch is just cheaper and more of a large-scale geared product than HomeAgain.

My dog has a chip named resQ made by Bayer. What I like about it is that it is an international chip that can be read by any ISO compliant scanner anywhere in the world.

Probably so-- one of the drawbacks to homeagain (in my experience) was the difficulty in owner transfer.
When you use 24petwatch, you have access to their database Petpoint management software, I can change chips/owners easily within that system.
