My dogs are all Buddhists and none of them carry pistols so I fail to see how the NRA or fake stick hits in IPO trials help them .. it's just another tempest in an increasingly smaller IPO teapot.

by gsdstudent on 02 December 2013 - 13:12

did I hit dead wood on this comparison? The NRA stands up for the gun owning public. The NRA fights laws against gun ownership. They have a membership. The NRA has a strong lobby at the State and National level. I see a link between our rights as dog owners who train our dogs and to the gun owning population. I trust the leadership of the National and international GSD organization will lobby to keep the correct rules in our sport for our dogs. I trust the leadership to monitor State  and federal laws which will infringe on our ability to train real world dogs, personal dogs, and sport dogs. Stick hits being suspended in dog sport is one step closer to no dog sports. making any sense?

I do understand, gsdstudent,
but as long as the USA do follow the rules of FCI, they will follow the changes within IPO.
Animal rights activists do have a big lobby in Europe...

by joanro on 02 December 2013 - 14:12

It takes big money to lobby against proposed laws.....I don't think dog sport is any comparison to the money the NRA has for lobbying.

@joanro: dog sports, i agree. but if you consider LE, Military, Private Security, Hunting (dog) associations, etc. and actually managed to unite all of us under a single, limited purpose umbrella, i.e., to stand up against peta et al, you got a shot. in fact, you'd probably find plenty of allies in the equine and ranching industries at least to the point of 'access sharing' congress and senate members. also, once you're in a financial position to make clear to the well meaning peta et al donors that the end game is to outlaw any and all animal husbandry, which includes fido an fluffy, you actually can influence their funding and hit them where it matters. it'd be a non-trivial undertaking but certainly attainable.

speaking of hitting dead wood, or the case of '' Bubba buda pull my finger and i will waste my time''; I wish to say again, if we do not hang together we will surely hang separately. organized dog clubs support dog sport. They have an influence on how dogs are perceived publicly. Great example is the fight against breed specific legislation. Who makes this fight? dog clubs make this fight. The no-stick-hits movement is just the beginning. brood over this single issue and let another opportunity fade. Is Charlton Heston available? no, he is still dead

Look up "dead wood" in the encyclopedia and the USCA is the photo beside the definition.  Anyone with membership in the USCA can blather on about everyone banding together against the PETA barbarians at the door but as far as I can see the USCA is the barbarian when it comes to other IPO participant organizations and GSD owners.  No dual membership, many extra charges if another IPO club member wants to participate at an USCA event, cheating at WUSV qualifiers, breaking the WUSV constitution, and other unnatural crimes makes the USCA just as bad as PETA or the animal rights activists.  Whether the USCA or PETA it is always "my way or the highway" and now the same old crowd of USCA whiners and deniers wants to play nice and band together against a rule change that matters not in the least ??  If the enemy of my enemy is my friend then I'm going to join PETA because they are less of an enemy to me and my dogs than the USCA and they allow dual membership as far as I know,  I can live without fake stick hits and the USCA as both are equally important to me.  The NRA is nothing but a clown show as it is about as useful to me as either Charlton Heston and/or Ronald Reagan were dead or alive .. something to entertain the fools.

Bubba, I'm almost starting to feel sorry for you.
