Yes, we're keeping him. I really hope he is as nice as the shelter lady claims.

Wonderful!!! I am so glad he has his forever home!! Can you keep us updated on his progress with your family, please? You can even contact me privately with updates if you'd like or if you'd prefer. Thanks to you for making him part of your family.

This is EXCELLENT NEWS!
Behold the power of networking online. This will be the 4th dog this month saved from the needle thanks to FB and this board.
Unfortunately, my own dog, "T" has suffered some kind of injury overnight.
Suddenly he cannot get up, cannot walk. Your positive thoughts and prayers are appreciated,

update:
I picked him up on Friday from the vet clinic that neutered him. We spent the weekend in Florida and came home to Virginia on Sunday.  On Sunday I noticed his neutering site wasn't looking good, so I took him to my vet on Monday. It's infected, we were given Clavamox. This morning, Tuesday, it looked worse, oozing and smelly. We took him back to my vet.  She opened the incision to clean it out, and she told me it is badly infected, and the vet in Florida did a bad neutering job. She warned me that if the infection gets worse, he may not survive.

Also, while he was sedated, she xrayed his chest (because he is heartworm positive), and his hips ( his is mildly dysplastic), and he had a lump on one hind leg, it turns out he was shot and there are metal fragments in the bone that healed over it. She said it is all healed up, there is nothing to be done about it now.

So my poor dog is a medical mess. I've only had him  since Friday, but if he dies, at least he was loved for a short time.  I almost forgot to mention, he is beautiful. I can't imagine who would shoot him or throw him away, and he has such a nice personality.

I forgot to mention, my vet thinks he is around 2 years old. He has beautiful teeth, he is very handsome.  My vet was upset at the bad neutering job, she asked me for the name and phone number of the vet that did the surgery. I'll see what she says about that.

2 years thats good..he is young enough to tough it out....:)

Asja...do you have any other dogs? how are they taking to the new addition or are they isolated form him?

by Asja on 26 April 2011 - 18:04

I do have another shepherd, Bonni.  This new dog looks like her, I think that's why I was taken with his photos.  BTW, he is much more handsome in person.  Bonni and new dog were okay, both are pretty easy going with other dogs.  My concern with the new dog (who hasn't been named yet, my husband is still deciding), is that he is weak. He is very thin, he only weighs 75 pounds and he should easily be 90.  He has heartworms.  My vet warned me the infection doesn't look good and he may die.  My two older dogs died a few years ago, I don't want to lose a dog I just got.

Awww I am so sorry you're having to go thru this with him.  But Kudos to you for taking him and caring for him.  You're right, even if you lose him at this point at least he will go to the bridge knowing someone loved him enough to rescue him and give him a chance.  You and yours will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Not to hijack the thread but also you Shelly with T.
