my puppy is 4months old now and weigh only 28lbs.

i'm thinking to increase her weight. according to chart she should be 36lbs by now.

i'm feeding her innova large breed puppy food close to 6cups. 2cups three times  a day.

is there anything i could feed her to gain her weight.

she looks like really skinny.

thanks

You can try Proplan Performance All Stages dog food.  Her weight will surely increase as long as she consume all 5 to 6 cups at 112 grams per cup.

There is no definitive chart as to how much a puppy should weigh at a certain age.  You have to go by what she looks like, more than anything.  And you do say that she looks skinny so not a bad idea to change foods.  That's an aweful lot of food, to not be gaining any weight.  If you haven't done so already, make sure the you've had fecals checked and that she's been wormed appropriately.

Hi,

I to somewhat extent agree to what Rezkat5 have written. the weight of the puppy should not be calculated according to the Chart, some might have heavy bone and some might not have, rather if u feed your puppy a lot just to gain him some weight, then u might be disturbing his metabolism. Just see if the puppy is not malnutrition.

Also this depends on the activity of your puppy. If he/she is over active then u need to provide them with more nutrition otherwise if they are sluggish then u must reduce accordingly so at to maintain their balance.

I feed my puppy only RC starter puppy with beef and rice and they are too happy and active also.

Try and change your food or the routine of the dog, it might help you get some changes.

Regards

Cyrus

Forget the weight charts, Kool.  Those numbers represent  the middle ground of what a number of GSDs weighed at certain ages meaning half will weight more, half less. Also remember that there are a lot of GSD breeders in the world who have been breeding dogs that are oversized and those weight figures include those dogs that are now  considered too big and that are being put to the back of the class at the SV shows. I think you will see those weight  numbers drop over the years as GSD breeders try to get back to breeding for standard sized dogs.

Just feed her a good food and wait it out. Her adult weight is really out of your control anyway, she will only grow as large as her genes tell her to. Slower growing pups are generally healthier adults. Good luck with her.

Chicken Wings and Necks, I swear by them for having big substantial puppies and adults!

Way too much food for so little weight gain.  I think something is wrong - if you are right about the six cups of good food.  Either she has a very, very high metabolism, or cannot digest this food due to either allergies or parasites.  I'd have her wormed, would change foods, and would supplement with chicken.

None of this is because she is 28 lbs.  That just means she is a medium-small female who will finish around 55-59 pounds.  But a 4 m female weighing 28 lbs who is perfectly well is eating only about 3-4 cups of good food a day.  Her weight only requires 700 calories and at the rate she is growing she only needs about another 800, so that's 1500, or fewer than four cups.  IF she is really eating six, which sounds quite unlikely, she needs new food and an exam.  IF, on the other hand, you are in error, and she is only eating 3 cups a day, I'd supplement with chicken.

There two other possibilities -- you are exercising her too much, or you live in the southern hemisphere and she is living outside in winter.  A 4 month puppy needs a few one mile jaunts a day, some games and training.  Are you somehow burning an extra 1000 calories a day?  That would require about 100 minutes of intense exercise every day on top of the normal amount I just described.  Is she running 15 miles a day?  If not, I think its one of the problems above.

MVF, i live in california. i use rice cooker cup i don't know if this is the right cup to measure.

but she consumes all. she had her stool checked by vet last time and everything fine.

i don't burned her off a lot since she is puppy and only few mins walk.

RE:That just means she is a medium-small female who will finish around 55-59 pounds.

did you mean my puppy is medium sized female?

i'd like to know substitute with chicken? did you mean provide her more chicken?

would be glad to hear.

thanks
