Are there any trainers on here that are self confident enough to post your training videos of yourself training the Voraus??
I have done a search on here already and did not find much when it comes to videos
I have seen several and heard of several ways to do it but still not a 100 % sure on which of the many I would want to use on my dog!!.

Well i,m no trainer, and it,s not a video:

What I,ve always done is start with there favorite Ball or Jute put it on a up turned bucket to start and Heall up at the end of the field place the object on the bucket  hold the leash short and work the dog up about the toy(get the toy get the toy) and heal away say 20 feet turn into position and make sure the dog is looking at the toy and work them up a littler more (get it get it) and when i,m sure there looking straight at it i hold the lead in my left hand get down lower with the dog (squat) and use my right hand and just say Varouis and release then just keep moving back with time always works for me. always move away from the varouis point it should alway be in the same place.

I don't have a video either but I do it the same way as Bob, except I have a metal thingy that sticks in the ground that  I hang the toy from.

I too have done it the way Bob described.I was taught by another trainer I worked with that trialed hunting dogs. That is how he taught his dog to "go out".You never move the toy on the bucket(I used a food bowl turned upside down)  you move the dog back. I have had solid sit and downs in motion so I didn't use the down in the excersice till I had a consistant go out. When i incorperated the down I made use to go up to my dog and not call him from that position as I didn't want him to think that he could break and come to me.I would also have another toy that i would reward him with when I got to him.

I use Sueincc's method. I have a rod that I can stake into the ground, it's basically used for hanging baskets/etc, and I'll clip the toy and leave it hanging, then send the dog. I do not move the stake, I move the dog further away from it. This method helps teach the dog to keep it's head up, because it's toy is hanging, not on the ground. I (almost) never take the toy/pole away while practicing the send out.

I don't have any video, but I do have some pictures:

I too have the exflower plater stand, I started using a bucket cause it,s what I had at the time and it,s most probably what most people have around. I like the hanging toy better.

Any particular reason you signal the Voraus with your right arm instead of your left?

I'd think it would be easier on the dog if it's the left arm.  Obviously, your dog is doing just fine with the right arm signal!

I realize this is not exactly what your looking for but we  teach them to go away by virtue of the trained retrieve or by going to a raised platform If you are going to use a toy its best to have several of the same so you don't have to ''replant'' it every time ,we increase the distance by moving back and then you would add the drop at a distance

by Bob McKown on 02 April 2010 - 19:04

It,s just the way I was taught?

by showshepherds4me on 03 April 2010 - 06:04

I learned the same way. The toy will keep the dogs speed up and returning will keep him motivated. I do very few down until I'm really near to trial.I always use my right arm. ???
