Hello ;-)! Yes, that means that the dog is hip displacement free proven by an x-ray made in Italy by an authorized vet. by the SAS (WUSV-member). The only thing is, one never knows really if it is 1, 2 or 3. Other member countries normally are listed a6 instead of a1,2 or 3, which also says the same, no degree. Best regards :-) !!!

I presume that is a HD evaluation by the Italian Kennel Club, or similar organization. I could easily be wrong, but I think that Italy does not participate in the S.V.'s "a" stamp programme. Just as a side note, when one sees "HD "a"6 on a pedigree it means that the dog's hip quality was evaluated by the S.V., but it is registered in a country who does not recognize their "a" stamp programme. Holland is one (1) of these countries and there are a few more. I remember that Italy did not recognize the "a" stamp programme in the past, and that may still be true. Another interesting note: In years past, dogs were allowed to achieve a high placing at the BSZS with a foreign hip quality certification. I belive this was changed in 2004, requiring that all dogs vying for VA (and possibly V-I don't remember) status MUST have an "a" stamp, regardless of their HD findings by another entity in another country. D.H. is the expert on HD rulings as applied to an S.V. pedigree, and can explain much more. Bob-O
