Can anyone please confirm the date of the Northumberland & Durham Champ show for me.  I have just seen somewhere that it is to be held on 1st August, the date of our open show.  Now, whilst I appreciate 'lowly' open shows play second fiddle to champ shows, this date, being the first Sat in August, is the date we have held our shows on for years.  Do Secretary's no longer check what clubs use these dates on year in and year out?  No wonder show entries are dwindling.... If this is in fact the case, then I can see no other action but to cancel our show, despite having the judge booked, the schedules printed and the venue etc booked as there is no way we can compete with a Champ show in the North East but we will now lose a substantial amount of money.  Unless of course this is a mistake, and it is not on our usual date.  Therefore I apologise and will get off my soapbox and shut up!

But, this issues is really something that needs to be addressed.  Since the loss of Jayne, no-one seems to care if they breenge in on other clubs dates.  The same has happened this year for GSD of NI who always have thier shows the Belfast weekend but due to another club on the mainland applying for this date before them, they haven't got it, despite the other club changing their date!.  So, now both clubs in Ireland lose out big time as folks are unlikely to travel for both shows on seperate weekends but would have been an excellent double show weekend in Ireland.

I really hope I am wrong!

Oh well, sadly apparantly it's not wrong, Northumberland and Durham are holding thier show on this date.  Not sure why they have suddenly decided to hold their show in August but we will now have to cancel ours as there is no way we can compete with a Champ Show in the North East.

This is a very serious issue, and should NEVER have occurred in the first place. It is becoming very clear that our GSD organisation within Great Britain is failing to manage our breed shows and many other very important aspects of our breed. We are experiencing ridiculous clashes amongst shows which not only seriously affects one or both shows, but demoralises the committees who have done considerable work towards their show. we do not need demoralisation, what we need is management and a management structure for our breed. We need to initiate fundamental and crucial changes within the GSD Breed Council organisation. Changes that WILL stop the rot and bring new hope and inspiration throughout our breed. This is NOT rocket science, this is achievable and we can all benefit. It needs our serious attention now.

We all need to grasp the nettle of truth about the lack of organisation and decision making within the GSD Breed of the UK. Personalities should not be allowed to block necessary organisational changes, and decisions must be made to instigate the changes and commence the progress we need. Personalities need to stop putting their own self interest ahead of our breeds problems, our breed is suffering because of this. Our breed needs an agenda for improvement - NOT PERSONAL AGENDA'S.

We "tinker" while our breed "BURNS".

With Ref to Videx comment above.
I am unemployed due to long term illness therefor have time on my hands, I would be more than happy to set-up a web site that would show ALL the GSD shows so that clubs would  be able to see in advance without having to phone/email ect to check other show dates that may clash.
All I ask is that club sec's send me the imformation
Champ shows 2 years in advance open show 12 months in advance.
I would suggest that clubs that have their shows on the same date each year need not change them, and other shows that change from year to year should use the web site to see what dates are free.
I would also advertise show results and any photo's of winners and attach schedules
I will make NO charge for this service as I feel it would help ALL clubs and may increase the number of entries to shows and aviod shows clashing

THIS SITE WOULD BE FOR SHOW IMFORMATION ONLY AND NO OTHER ADVERTISING WILL BE ALLOWED

IF I GET ENOUGH PEOPLE CONTACTING ME FOR THIS SERVICE
 I WILL START RIGHT
AWAY.

I think this is an excellent idea to be used for all shows, Open and Champ.  May I suggest that if this can get up and running, then before Secretary's apply for their dates, they check this.  You could maybe incorporate (applied for) on the date as there can be a considerable time difference between applying and approval.  All Champ shows are applied for in November for future years.  So maybe we could all have our dates put in, with applied for or to be applied for and then if there are clashes, discussions can take place between secretaries to sort out dates.  Therefore not incurring the clubs money of having to change dates at a later date.

Obviously our dates for next year, 2010,  are already approved but our Champ show is on Saturday April 10th and our Open show Saturday 7th August.  I will get you our 2010 dates asap.

I hope others come on and do likewise as this could be a very useful tool and I am sure that there will be at least one person on every committee with access to the internet or e-mail.

And myfanwy, THANK YOU for offering your services to support something like this.  It is exactly what we need and need more of by people.

Hi All
I know how annoying these clashes can be but in order to try to calm waters between Club Secs please take note of the following:- The order of which the KC allocate Breed CC's -
                  1) First priority for dates is given to THE ALL BREED CHAMP SHOWS.
                  2) Second in line for dates are BREED CHAMP SHOWS.
3a) Equal Third ......................................   All Breed Open Shows.
                  3b) ..............................................................Breed Open Shows.
Take my own Club West Yorks this year as an example - The date West Yorks is best known for and has always applied for its Championship Show dates as the First Weekend in June. Cannot remember precisely which ALL BREED CHAMP show this clashed with this year (and as you all know the day allocated for Our Pastoral Group at 'All breed' shows changes from one year to the next) but in any case some All Breed Show had already got CC's for GSD's on our Initial Applied for date of Sunday 7th June our 2nd choice of Sunday 14th June was also taken by an All Breed Championship Show (again dont know which one) and as you already know this date has been taken by the GSD Leagues Open Show as the KC will ALLOW Clubs to hold Open shows on the same day as Champ Shows they just will NOT ALLOW CC's to be handed out to the SAME BREED on the SAME DAY. Perhaps if we had applied for SAT 6th June or SAT 13th June we may have been able to hold our Champ Show then but one is never aware of this when first applying for Club dates and besides due to work commitments of some of our commitee we always hold our shows on Sundays not Saturdays. As it was in the end I remember ringing the KC to get them to send me their latest updated list of ALL the Champ Shows they had already allocated (by this time this included the dates already issues to some of our Breed Clubs) and after recieving this list I looked for the nearest Sunday to our initial choice of June 7th that I could see available then a phonecall to the KC Show Dept to provisionally select the date (because who knows between me recieving their list and chosing a date some other club having a similar problem could have got their first), followed by an immediate fax on Club headed paper to officially request the date I had just provisionally secured over the phone and believe it or not July 5th was the nearest available date the KC would / could give us.

This of course means that without any intention to do so (because it was without much more choice), I also could have inadvertently chosen the date some Club picks for their Open Show, but as the KC do not allocate Open show dates until ALL Champ show dates have been allocated , the fact a Champ Show is on the same day as an Open Show IS A FAULT one can ONLY ATTRIBUTE TO THE KC rather than the Club holding the Champ show. At least that is normally the case anyway, unless the Club holding the Champ Show has only applied for it in the last 11mths, then yes they should have had somewhere or way of checking first, though the KC are still arguably at fault for allowing them to chose the same day as an Open Breed Show had already booked.

When applying to the KC for show dates you have to remember that the KENNEL CLUB HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO GEOGRAPHICAL KNOWLEDGE (goodness they cant even tell the difference between a Scheme that AIDS the Health and Welfare of Pedigree Dogs from one that mostly AIDS t

Hi Sue
I understand your fustration, and do agree with the with your sentiment.
This site will be for clubs and exhibitors imformation only, as I would not and could not have any influance over the KC and the dates they agree to.

Hopefully the clubs will use the web site to there advantage WHICH IS FREE

I will have it up and running by the begining of June
If nobody wishes to pass on the imformation I will research it from the internet,
But hopefully everyone will contribute.

Hi Sue,

Some great points and I totally accept my part as Secretary to check dates.  However, on this occasion, my understaning some time ago was that the date for this show was in May.  I am aware they did not have this show but never thought to check if it was rearranged as they have not had a show for some considerable amount of time i think.  However, what is done is done, I cannot change it now and we are now cancelling out show, so I apologise to the Scottish exhibitors that they will lose out on an excellent Open show.  Hopefully we will make up for it next year at our Champ show on 10th April.

I have also had another thought and please no disrespect to myfanwy with thier etremely kind offer but what about the Jaquenetta site providing this service as they are already up and running with the show calendar and results etc.  I don't wish to presume but I am sure Peter and Jean could provide this service in the first instance and when up and running, it could potentially be passed to the BC for managment on their own website for all to see.  I defo think there needs to be an applied for part on the dates though as things can and do change.  At least if the Champ Show dates are submitted as soon as applied for which is well in advance, then it makes it easier for the Open shows to sort themselves out around them.

Or maybe both sites can do it and then we are sure to catch all, so to speak, as myfanwy has offered their kind services which is much appreciated, I just thought of Jaquenetta as they are already up and running and well established and also well known by all.

just another thought... the more the merrier if it get's the right result at the end of the day.
